Fast + Furious delivers unique service to Great Zuurberg Trek

PwC Great Zuurberg Trek logistics partner Fast + Furious is set to deliver further value in the build-up to the seventh edition of the boutique mountain bike stage race, which gets underway on August 27.

The three-day event over roughly 200km is based at the historical Zuurberg Mountain Village just outside Port Elizabeth.

It forms part of Hayterdale Trails’ Great Zuurberg Collection, which also includes the Rubicon Great Zuurberg Trek E-edition in mid-September and the Great Zuurberg Trail Run in October.

Owner Trevor Hayter said Fast + Furious had become an essential component of the three events, “which would not be the same without them”.

“Our relationship with them is a real value-add and a key differentiator for all our events,” he said.

“What everyone really appreciates about their team is that they are on time, totally reliable and always happy to go out of their way to assist – and that with a smile.

“Besides the very important element of bike transport, they assist us and other sponsors with the collection and delivery of branding and other products such as the snacks and refreshments that our guests get to enjoy on a complimentary basis.”

Fast + Furious has 17 branches countrywide and will be involved with the GZT for the fourth straight year. Its priority is to eliminate the stress of transporting bicycles to and from the event, which attracts riders from all the major centres.

Commercial director Devan Cairns said the haulier would go a step further this year by dropping off part of the goodie bag prior to the race.

“We will deliver the race shirts to the riders ahead of time, either to their homes or the addresses of their choice. I don’t think this has ever been done.”

Cairns said the company played its part in social distancing during the pandemic by offering contactless deliveries.

As part of GZT’s luxury offering, participants with Platinum and Gold entry packages can have their bicycles collected and delivered at no additional charge. Those with Silver packages can pay R900 for the same service.

“Riders pack their bicycles in a travel bag and we collect these from their homes and deliver them directly to the race village, and vice versa once the race has been completed,” explained Cairns.

“Alternatively, those who are not comfortable disassembling their bikes can drop them off at Cycle Lab outlets or an address of their choice where we will have them collected.” The event’s technical partner will be on hand to reassemble bicycles at the venue.

Cairns said this service was unique to the GZT as “our main focus or niche is small parcel distribution to homes, businesses and addresses throughout South Africa”.

He added that the boutique nature of the race, which focused on a luxury experience, was a good fit for the company’s ethos.

“The way it is presented resonates with our brand and culture as we share a common interest in customer satisfaction.

“Our unique delivery or boutique service offerings within the e-commerce and home delivery space, among others, is most certainly ahead of its time – a quality last-mile experience right to your door.”
